Harold Clayton Lloyd was an American film comedian popular from his silent films in the beginning of the 20th century. Lloyd appears in one of the most iconic images in cinema history hanging from the hands of a clock above a highway in the movie “Safety Last!”. He portrayed various characters, like Lonesome Luke and the Glasses character, or the Boy, during his prolific cinematic career and he is considered one of the best silent film actors of all time.

Yasujirō Ozu was a Japanese film director and script writer. He originally worked as a cameraman in silent films to become soon a prolific film creator. Some of his most well known works are "Brothers and Sisters of the Toda Family", "Late Spring", "Equinox Flowers" and "Tokyo Story", his masterpiece. His exceptional technical style and his analysis of family relationships and generation gap issues on screen are only few of the things that have established him as one of the most prominent directors of all times. His work seems to have influenced Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders, among others, and he is still commemorated by various artists and film critics for his contribution to cinema art.

Billy Liar is a 1963 film based on Keith Waterhouse's novel. It was directed by John Schlesinger and stars Tom Courtenay as Billy and Julie Christie as Liz. The film belongs to the Free Cinema movement and is the story of a young imaginative British boy who seeks to travel to London and become a world famous script writer. The film is a wonderful depiction of life in post war England and an ode to escapism, imagination and life itself. In 2004 the American band Decemberists named their first release album after Waterhouse's popular hero, as well.
